Debbie L. McAdoo

Executive Director

Debbie L. McAdoo joined the Power of Peace Project, Inc. in April of 2016 as the nonprofit’s first Executive Director.  An Atlanta native and lifelong human and environmental justice advocate, Debbie shares a synergistic vision with the Power of Peace Project.  Along with her energy and enthusiasm, she brings a diverse and cogent array of professional and personal skills and experiences that uniquely coalesce into the perfect set of qualifications for this vital role with POPP.

Debbie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in a pre-law program in Science and Technology Studies with minors in Management and Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation’s first engineering school located in Troy, New York.  Following her undergraduate work, she attended postgraduate studies through the National Center for Paralegal Training graduating summa cum laude.  She recently attended Emory University’s Grant Writing Certification Program in anticipation of her re-entry into the nonprofit world.

For the past eight years, Debbie has worked in the Alpharetta, Georgia area for the North American Headquarters of one of the world’s largest glass manufacturing companies, privately held in the US and publically traded on the Nikkei, with divisions in glass, chemicals, ceramics and electronics.  Working in the Law Department as the Senior Paralegal and Corporate Compliance Administrator to the Vice President, General Counsel in support of the Executive Directors and the entire North American region, including Canada, the US, and Mexico, Debbie has maintained responsibility for the company’s Corporate Governance, Compliance and Entity Management in all three regions, including Board of Directors meetings support, asset sales, new company development, and ownership and investment reporting. She has provided legal support to all company business units and departments including work with Tax, Finance, Engineering, Information Technology, Research and Development, Transportation, Import/Export Compliance, Human Resources, Benefits, Marketing, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Health and Safety and Compliance including both internal and external audit and government reporting.

In her role with the Audubon Society, a well known nonprofit dedicated to conservation and protection of birds, their migration routes and nesting habitats, she managed community and member educational programs, supported annual fundraising campaigns, and published the organization’s newsletter which included state and federal legislative updates affecting the organization’s strategic alliance with the state of New York.

In her role with EarthKeepers, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting indigenous earth skills, including local and international peace initiatives, she managed day to day operations, produced fundraising events and educational programing, ran a membership campaign and volunteer network and provided quarterly and annual reporting to major funders.  She routinely published articles for syndicated journals, including special articles for the Department of Labor, the Southern Christian Leadership Counsel and local community newspapers.

While working for a small law office in North Georgia, Debbie gained valuable insight into the criminal justice system representing defendants in local and state criminal cases. Her work included representation of juvenile offenders and their successful completion of probationary and diversion programs, including their involvement with state agencies such as the Department of Family and Children’s Services.  While in this role, she also worked on numerous guardianship and family law matters.

Debbie also spent several rewarding years as an Adjustment Training Counselor at a Work Oriented Rehabilitation Center in Florida where she worked one on one with a population of permanently disabled young people who had reached legal adulthood and were required to be evaluated for life skills and work opportunities as they aged out of high school and into adult living accommodations.  She designed and implemented programs to measure aptitude and skills to fit work assignments available in the community and then provided counseling, training, and assistance to the young adults in their transitions, working closely with local community businesses to ensure opportunity, safety, and success.

Debbie lives happily in the North Georgia Mountains with a son in college and a son in high school.  She is undeniably passionate about living a healthy and meaningful life to the fullest and is very excited about growing this organization and sharing the amazing program the Power of Peace has to offer far and wide to as many people as possible so that we may all find peace and live the life of our dreams and make this world a better place!
